944,512. Distillation apparatus. K. W. WILLANS. Nov. 18, 1960 [Nov. 19, 1959], No. 39269/59. Heading B1B. Liquids such as brine, contained in a tray 5 located in duct 1, are evaporated by passing a current of hot air from heater 3 through the duct so that some of the liquid vaporizes into the hot air. The moisture-laden air flows down duct 2 to condenser 14, and the condensate is collected in tank 18. The air withdrawn from the lower end of duct 2 by means of fan 15 may either be discharged to the atmosphere or it may be recycled to heater 3 via conduit 21. This heater 3 may be an oil-fired or gas-fired burner, in which case the gaseous products of combustion may be mixed with the air. Tray 5 is supplied with liquid from tank 7. The liquid may be used as coolant in condenser 14 before it is passed to tank 7. When it is required to collect the residue in tray 5, it is removed through door 6. A plurality of trays, lying one above the other, may be mounted in duct 1.
