Abstract
A process for recovering phthalic anhydride from hot gases comprises passing the latter into a fluidized bed of comminuted phthalic anhydride, the temperature of the gases and of the bed being such that phthalic anhydride condenses on to the comminuted material. Specification 986,110 is referred to.ALSO:A condenser for recovering phthalic anhydride from hot gases comprises a vessel containing a bed of comminuted phthalic anhydride, an inlet for the hot gases arranged to maintain the bed in fluidized condition and means for withdrawing heat from the bed, in particular a cooling coil at least partially immersed therein. Preferably the bed is furnished with a secondary air inlet below the hot gas inlet; the secondary inlet may be located in a lowermost portion of the bed of reduced diameter and may be associated with means for withdrawing heavier articles which have fallen past it.
