Abstract

Apparatus for solvent recovery, which is especially suitable for the recovery of dry-cleaning or degreasing solvents, comprises a bed of active carbon, a condenser situated below the bed of active carbon, means for passing solvent vapour-laden air through the active carbon whereby the solvent is adsorbed, and means for passing steam through the bed of carbon con <PICT:0887677/III/1> taining the adsorbed solvent so that the steam may thereafter be condensed by the condenser. As shown, a suitable embodiment comprises vessel 1 which solvent-laden air enters through conduit 10, fan 10a, and valve 13; the air stream follows path A throug the bed of activated carbon 2, which is supported by wire meshes 3 and 4, before being vented through valve 14 and conduit 11. When solvent vapour can be smelt through 17 in the vented air stream, valves 13 and 14 are closed and valves 5a for steam and 15 for cooling water are opened. The steam passes from discharger 5 by path B through the activated bed, and carries the adsorbed solvent with it to condenser coil 6 where the steam and solvent condense; the condensate passes to tray 7 and thence, by separator 8 to tank 8a, water being discharged from tank 8a by line 19 and solvent by syphon 20a.
