Abstract

543,795. Fuel-injection valves. KAMMER, G. S. Dec. 24, 1940, No. 18120. [Class 7 (iii)] A valve for effecting fuel injection at different times with differing characteristics in the same cycle comprises a valve body 4 which is oscillated to bring ports 5, 6 therein into register with corresponding injection orifices 1, 2 in the valve casing 3. The valve 4 is oscillated by means of a crank arm 12 which is engaged by a check valve 14 opened by the pressure of the fuel admitted at 15, the valve 4 being returned, when the fuel pressure is relieved, by a spring 13. The form shown is adapted for use with a jerk pump P of the kind described in Specification 542,844, having two deliveries of fuel which are supplied to the valve at 15 and 10. The former delivery opens the check valve 14, and rotates the valve 4 to bring the ports 5, 6 into register with the orifices 1, 2, so that fuel is at first delivered through the passage 11 and orifices 1, and later through passages 10, 8 and the orifices 2. In a modification an ordinary jerk pump is used, delivering fuel only to the check valve, which is so constructed that it first opens the passages to the upper orifices 2, and later those leading to the lower orifices 1. There may be two orifices in the upper set, and four in the lower. In another form the check valve takes the form of a piston slide valve working in a transverse bore at the top of the valve 4, and formed with a groove engaging a crank pin on the valve 4.
