[Class 81 (ii)] A surgical dressing or sanitary napkin is provided by applying a sheet of cellulosic tissue of marked porosity, the fibres only of which are fluid repellent, directly upon an absorbent pad or filling. If both faces of the pad are covered with tissue of the kind indicated, the napkin is usable equally well either side up. The fibrous structure of the tissue is treated to make it fluid repellent by means of a dry or liquid rosin size or of waxine sizes containing also fatty acid soaps, saponifiable waxes, gums, mineral oils &c. or of dispensions of unsaponified wax with little or no rosin.
