Abstract
543,753. Valves. BARR, THOMSON & CO., Ltd., and REID, J. L. Nov. 14, 1940, No. 16509. [Class 135] A lift valve is actuated by a spindle 3 arranged at right-angles to the axis of the valve member and provided with screw-threads 4, 5 of opposite hands. Nuts 6, 7 on the threads 4, 5 are held against rotation by legs 23 engaging fixed guide rods and are connected to the valve member 1 by toggle-links 8. The links may be connected to lugs on the valve member by a single pin engaging lugs 13 or pinions may be made to permit the rotation of the valve member. One end of the spindle turns in a bush 14 carried by a socketed screwed plug 15 while the other end, which passes to the exterior of the casing through a stuffing box 16, is guided by a bush 19. Axial movement of the spindle is prevented by shoulders on the spindle engaging the lower part of the stuffing box and the upper end of the plug 15. The casing is made of forged parts welded together and may comprise a pot like part 2 which may be in two parts, inlet and outlet flanged connecting parts and a separate flange 18a for securing a cover 18.
