Abstract

543,358. Artificial fibres. GASTELL, R. SCHREIBER-. April 8, 1940, No. 6301. Convention date, May 13, 1939. [Class 2 (ii)] A stream of liquid for forming artificial fibres is subjected to a high potential electric field established between one electrode formed by the liquid jet apparatus and another passed across the chamber while the fibres are deflected and drawn through a rotating funnel. The chamber 1 has a conducting casing, or a casing lined with conducting material, and is earthed by the wire 5. One or more rows of nozzles 3 on pipes 2 form an electrode and project the material into the chamber. The other electrode is formed by one or more thin wires 4 or a number of conducting pointed ends, and the resulting electric action assists in turning the fibres for passage through the rotating funnel 17, after which they are wound on the reel 19. The nozzle tubes 2 are connected through a resistance W<SP>1</SP> to the positive pole of the rectifier G<SP>1</SP> supplied from the transformer T<SP>1</SP>. The electrodes 4 are connected to the negative pole of the rectifier G<SP>2</SP> supplied from the transformer T<SP>2</SP>. The effect of the electric field on the fibres can be varied by varying the transformer connections.
