Abstract

764,237. Electrostatic precipitation. AIRMAZE CORPORATION. Jan. 25, 1955. No. 2179/55. Class 39(1). An ionizing electrode structure is mounted for ready withdrawal from an electrostatic precipitator cell corisisting of side plates 10a and front grill 11. The ionising wires 31 are strung between brackets 25 which are mounted on a frame 24, and the frame is inserted in guides formed by plates 14b and ears 27 struck up inwardly from the plates 14b. The plates 14b are extensions of the charged collecting electrodes 14, and the sides plates 10a of the cell are members of the grounded set of collecting electrodes 10. The ionizing wires may be formed by a single wire wound back and forth between upper and lower brackets 25. In a modification, Fig. 4, the wire is also wound between front and back notches 35 in the brackets to form a second set of downstream ionizing wires. The distance s between the first set of wires and the grill 11 is given by the formula s = kE<1.5> where E = kilovolts and k = 0À27 for a 0À004 inch diameter wire, and the spacing between parallel wires is from 1À0 to 1À5s. The ionizing wires may be grounded and a charged insulated grill provided just inside of grill 11. Specification 684,194 is referred to.
