Abstract
542,716. Pipe couplings. WOOD & CO., Ltd., H., BRITTON, W., and TAGG, W. H. Nov. 6, 1940, No. 16165. [Class 99 (i)] In a quickly releasable pipe coupling of the kind in which two semi-circular channel-section housings 1, 2 are flared internally so that, when drawn together, they tighten the flared ends A, B of the pipes on to an interposed packing C, the housings are formed at one end with bosses 1a, 2b and provided with a pin 4 which passes through a hole in the boss 1a and is bent at right angles at 4a so as to engage a cam recess 2d in the other boss 2b, so that when the arm 4a is pressed down, the two housings are drawn together. They may be locked in this position by a pin 5 engaging holes in the boss 1a and pin 4. The 'other ends of the housings may have their bosses 1b, 2a similarly provided, or merely hinged together, as by means of a hooked pin 3a. The members A, B may be serrated fittings for the attachment of the ends of hose pipes ; or the coupling may be used for connecting a pipe or hose to a stop valve.
