Abstract

544,744. Pipe couplings. GULLICK, Ltd., and SEAMAN, T. Oct. 24, 1940, No. 15632. [Class 99 (i)] A coupling for pipes, hoses &c. conveying fluid under pressure comprises a spigot 10 and socket 11 which are locked together by a coupling held in the locking position by the fluid pressure, and comprising links 21 pivoted by pins 22 in slots 18 on the socket, which is also provided with open slots 20 engaged by other pins 23 on the links 21. The links 21 are engaged with a flange 16 on the spigot, and the fluid pressure on the end of the spigot forces the flange against the links so that the pins 22, 23 are held at the locking ends of the slots, and the joint cannot be broken until the fluid pressure is cut off. The spigot engages a packing 12 secured by a flange 13 in the socket, a space being left at 25 for access of the fluid.
