Abstract

542,397. Cable joints. LAKE, A. E. Sept. 11, 1940, No. 14071. [Class 38 (i)] A multi-core cable is jointed by stripping the sheath J and insulation D from the conductor ends C, joining each conductor by a metal sleeve, sliding a sleeve E of reinforced rubber over the joint and adjacent insulation, filling the spaces between the jointed cores with rubber compound and binding them together with tape H. This method may be applied first to the inner cores, as shown in Fig. 5, and the outer layer similarly made up around the inner assembly. The whole is then surrounded with rubber compound which is vulcanized in a mould to unite it with the cable sheaths J.
