Abstract
542,371. Fuel injectors. SOC. ANON. A. SAURER. April 8, 1941, No. 4686. Convention date, April 13, 1940. [Class 7 (iii)] In a fuel injector of the kind comprising a mushroom valve opened towards the cylinder space by the fuel pressure against spring action, so as to produce an annular film of fuel, the seating surface either on the valve or valve body, or both, is formed at intervals with recesses extending only partly across the breadth of the seating, whereby the amount of fuel in the annular film, and consequently the depth of penetration into the cylinder space, is increased in the zones corresponding to the recesses, whereby this type of valve is rendered suitable for large engines. Fig. 2 shows recesses 10 formed in the seating surface 5 of the valve body 1, and Fig. 3 indicates the type of fuel jet produced thereby. Fig. 5 shows the recesses 11 formed in the seating surface 3 of the valve 2 itself. The recesses may be of triangular, trapezoidal, or elliptical form to suit the shape of the combustion chamber.
