Abstract
542,340. Cooling radiators for motor vehicles. AUSTIN MOTOR CO., Ltd., and HAEFELI, J. C. Dec. 14, 1940, No. 17691. [Class 64 (iii)] The closure aperture C in a radiator filler body B which is open to the atmosphere is set well below the top of the radiator, and a vent pipe G opens at one end into the filler body just above the orifice and the other end into the radiator above the highest level normally reached by the cooling liquid. A tubular filler cap D closed at its lower end by a diaphragm d<6> screws into the closure orifice and is formed with a flange forming a liquid-tight joint. Holes d d5 are made in the cap above the diaphragm. The only liquid that can be lost by expansion or by over filling is that contained in the filler body, and part of this may be drawn into the radiator through the vent pipe as the liquid in the radiator cools.
