470,171. Vent plugs. CHLORIDE ELECTRICAL STORAGE CO., Ltd. (Woodbridge, J. L.) Feb. 18, 1937, No. 4881. [Class 53] [Also in Group XVII] Venting of gas from a storage battery or other container is permitted through an opening 9 of a vent plug which, if the container is overturned, is closed by a spring-pressed valve 11, a weight 17 which normally holds the valve open, being moved off the valve when the vent plug is tilted. Spring 16 may be of tantalum or immunized stainless steel, or may be protected with a non-corrosive rubber &c. coating. Grooves 18 permit escape of gas; if liquid reaches chamber 5, a large groove 19 permits escape of gas while liquid returns to the container through grooves 18. The lower end 20 of the plug is provided with grooves 21 of capillary dimensions for draining liquid, while a non-capillary groove 22 permits egress of gas.
