Gas exits.-A vent plug for an accumulator or other container, large enough to trap all the liquid which escapes into the plug on inversion or tilting of the container, is shown in section in Fig. 1, a modification being shown in Fig. 3, in which the outlet can be closed completely. Referring to Fig. 1, the plug communicates with the air by a vent-pipe V and with the container by a short tube A and an adjacent small hole, the tube A preferably having a slanting end inside the container, as shown, to facilitate the draining back of liquid. Fig. 3 shows a plug with a liquid seal, through which gas escapes by way of a tube A and holes X in the vent-pipe V, which is closed near the bottom, and can be screwed inwards to close the plug entirely. A modification of the plug shown in Fig. 3 has a small hole beside the tube A, as in the first construction; thus plug can be closed, but has no liquid seal. The Provisional Specification also describes a plug with a vent-pipe dipping into liquid in a short tube on the bottom, an aperture into the container being outside this short tube.
