Abstract
559,415. Accumulators. CHLORIDE ELECTRICAL STORAGE CO., Ltd. (Olson, C. D.). Jan. 27, 1943, No. 1410. [Class 53] [Also in Group XVII] A combined filling and venting plug for preventing overfilling comprises a filling well 16 with a removable vented cap 17, the well having a restricted opening 29 in its bottom 27 and an overflow opening 24, 25 in its side wall so arranged that liquid flowing from the well to the battery will form a seal to prevent escape of gas during filling. A vent passage 21 to determine the level of the liquid is closed at its upper end when the cap 17 is in position. The bottom 27 of the well is secured to a rod 28 to facilitate its removal when it is desired to insert a hydrometer. In Fig. 1, the opening 24, 25 is cut at an angle but in a modification, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the opening is cut straight through the wall of the well and a baffle is provided to deflect the path of the liquid upwardly to form the liquid seal during filling.
