Abstract

541,767. Gun turrets. GUY, S. S. June 13, 1940. No. 10288. [Class 92 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] Relates to hand-operated training gear for gun turrets a which carry the gun and gunner, the driving means, in the form of a single reduction gear, being mounted on the turret for engagement with a .fixed rack m. According to the iinventiion, the single reduction gear d, e is housed in a casing c, b formed of sheet metal parts connected as by welding and having attached tubular parts h, i to receive the driving spindles f, g. The spindle f is operated by a crank handle k' and the spindle g carries a pinion l engaging the fixed rack m. A brake pad p mounted on a spring arm o engages the wheel e to hold the parts in adjusted position, the brake being released by a rod r actuated by a sliding movement of the handle k'. To adjust the mesh of the pinion l with the rack m the casing c is mounted on a spring-pressed arm pivoted at x Fig. 2 to the turret, the arm being engaged by an adjustable screw stop z.
