433,988. Motor-vehicle steering-gear. NEW AVON BODY CO., Ltd., and WALTON, R., Wharf Street, Warwick. Aug. 15, 1934, No. 23522. [Class 79 (v)] In means for adjusting the rake of the steering column 13 which is pivotally mounted at its forward end on the chassis frame, a U- shaped guide 22, Fig. 2, straddling the column is pivotally supported at its upper end, a crosspiece 25 fixed to the column has slides 26 engaging the arms of the guide, and easily - operated means are provided for positioning the cross - piece relatively to the guide. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the guide 22 is pivoted to a bracket 21 on the rear of the dash, and the cross-piece 25 encloses a spring bolt controlled by a hand lever 31 and adapted to engage any one of a series of holes 30 in the guide so as to lock the column in any desired position. In a modification the cross-piece may be adjusted along the guide by screw gearing. The forward end of the column 13 may be mounted as shown in Fig. 1, the column being secured to a steering gear-box 12 having a tubular arm 14 pivoted to a frame bracket 16, the angular movement of the column being limited by a pin 18 working in a slot 19. When the column is not to be adjusted it may be secured in position by a nut 27 on the pin 18.
