Abstract

540,950. Bottling. CHERRY-BURRELL CORPORATION. May 17, 1940, No. 8814. Convention date, March 1. [Class 125 (ii)] Relates to a rotary bottle filler in which the liquid flows from the filler bowl primarily under the effect of gravity into partially evacuated bottles. The main object is to reduce foaming. The liquid, such as milk, is supplied to the reservoir 14 through a conduit 37, Which telescopes into a conduit 38. The lower end of conduit 38 is sweated to a sleeve 40 carrying ports 42. The float element 45 is fixed to an outer sleeve 43 provided with ports 44 and slidable on the sleeve 40. The reservoir 14 is partially exhausted of air by. a pump acting through a conduit 46, which is connected to a discharge fitting 48 of a stationary member 49 of a sealed rotary coupling mechanism, including a rotary element 50. The air enters the element 50 by holes 51 and passes out by holes 53 into channel 52. A perforated baffle 65 fixed under the lid 16 of the reservoir by a clip ring 67 stops most of the foam. The lower end of the element 50 is sealed by a stationary shallow tray 56 containing liquid. The upper end of the element 50 is sealed by gaskets 57, 58 kept in place by a compression element 60 with condensate deflector 61. Before the liquid passes into the reservoir 14 is passes through an air separator and cooler. The upper ends of che filler valves are covered by resilient sealing sleeves 33 provided with condensate deflectors 36.
