Abstract

540,880. Blow pipe burners. WHITE, S. H. Feb. 13, 1940, No. 2747. [Class 75 (i)] A burner for cutting or heating metal comprises a member 1 formed with an axial bore having portions 7<SP>1</SP>, 8<SP>1</SP>, 10 of different sizes and having a cylindrical outer surface formed with parallel grooves 2 fitting in a sleeve 6 having a convergent outlet opening 7. A mixture of oxygen and propane, butane, coal gas, or other fuel gas is supplied to the space between the sleeve 6 and member 1 and turbulence is produced prior to the mixture entering the grooves 2 by a recess 4 or enlargements on the stem 3 of the member 1. Oxygen alone is supplied to the axial bore in the member 1.
