[Class 75 (iii)] In a pyrophoric lighter having a spring-opened cover and a manually operated friction wheel, the release of the cover is effected by the initial rotary movement of the friction wheel to effect ignition. The pivoted cover 2 carries a block 5 containing a wick cap and to which is pivoted an arm 11 carrying a pivoted pawl 9 held by a spring 18 in contact with teeth 8 formed on a finger wheel 6 to which is fixed the friction wheel 7. The arm 11 is freely mounted by a tubular part 12 passing through a bore in the block 5 and a pin 15 passing freely through the part 12 has fixed thereto an arm 13 terminating in a hook 14 urged by the spring 18 to engage a fixed hook 19 on the casing of the lighter to hold the cover closed. The part 12 is operatively engaged with the arm 13 by means of a cutaway part 22 of the part 12 and an arcuate overhanging part 23 on the arm 13 by means of a cutaway part 22 of the part 12 and an arcuate overhanging part 23 on the arm 13, lost motion being provided between the parts 22, 23. With the cover closed, rotation of the wheel 6 first actuates the pawl 9 to swing the arm 11 and thereby the arm 13 to release the hook 14 from the hook 19 to allow the cover to open; further movement of the wheel 6 effects the ignition.
