Abstract
540,749. Centrifugal extractors. HEATHER, F. April 27, 1940, No. 7591. [Class 23] Impurities are separated from gases during their flow through a series of passages of expanding and contracting shapes formed by arranging, a number of partitions of circular or oval cross sections disposed eccentrically. In the form shown, sheet metal cylinders 6, 7, 8 of circular cross section are arranged inside the sheet metal cylinder 5 and are attached alternately to adjoining cylinders at opposite diametral points. This forms a series of oppositely directed crescent shaped spaces. The cylinder 5 is secured to the inner wall of a cooling water jacket 1. The gas enters by the inlet 4 and passes round the first crescent to the gap 10, then through the second crescent to the gap 11, and so on to the centre cylinder 8 and outlet 9. Liquid and other impurities collect at the bottom of the casing where small notches permit passage to a discharge cock 15. The gases leaving by the outlet 9 pass upwards to the centre of a filter screen consisting of perforated walls 16, 17 with radial partitions between to form compartments each of which contains a brush of slightly larger size than the compartment.
