Abstract
496,204. Centrifugal separators. HEATHER, F. May 27, 1937, No. 14948/36. [Class 23] [Also in Group XIII] Apparatus for separating oil &c. from air, steam, or other gases comprises a number of concentrically arranged tubular elements 6 with partitions 11, 12, dividing the space between adjacent tubes longitudinally into two sections so arranged with respect to openings 7, 8, connecting the spaces that the gas path has the general form of two serially connected interwound spirals. The elements are arranged in an upper chamber of a casing 1 having inlet and outlet headers 9, 10, and apertures 14 at the lower part of the elements allow deposited liquid to drain through a central aperture into a lower chamber 5. Rod baffles 13 may be arranged in staggered relation in the spaces, or angle irons or baffles of corrugated, trough-shaped, or zig-zag form may provide pockets for deposited liquid. Another baffle comprises perforated tubes containing absorbent or brush material. A modification provides a coil spring with rectangular turns in each section and flanged walls in place of the tubular partitions.
