Abstract
540,685. Valves. LEE, G. R. May 7, 1941, No. 6436/40. [Class 135] A valve device for controlling the flow of gases, liquids and relatively small solid particles comprises two rigid pipes 1, 2 joined by a flexible connection 3 and enclosed in a rigid chamber 8, to which fluid may be admitted to compress the flexible connection and so regulate the flow through the rigid pipes. The controlling fluid, preferably a liquid may be admitted or exhausted through a relatively small bore pipe connected to a reversible pump, cylinder and plunger or a filter pump and valves attached to a water supply. A small air release valve is fitted at 11. The flexible connection may be made of rubber, rubberized 'fabric, leather, the material known under the Registered Trade Mark " Cellophane ", or thin sheet metal. In the form shown the flexible connection comprises two sheets joined at 6 by adhesive and stitching and secured to the rigid pipes by bolts 4 and clamping strips 5. When made of thin metal sheets the edges are joined by soldering or brazing. The rigid pipes may be made of cast iron, mild steel, bronze, the material known under the Registered Trade Marks " Duralumin " and " Bakelite ", porcelain or earthenware.
