Abstract

A hydraulic flow controller has an input (2) a work output (10) and an overflow (30). The work output flow can be varied conventionally by a slideable valve (8) with axial slots to vary the area of the passage. The output can also be varied in accord with the input by a sensing piston (19) with three areas exposed to three pressures. The input pressure on a small circular area (20) is assisted by the output pressure acting on an annular area and opposed by the pressure after a preset reducing valve (3) acting on a large circular area (26). The sensing piston takes up a balance position, and permits a certain fraction of the fluid to pass to the overflow, any increase in the input supply causes a new balance to be set up increasing the output in proportion.
