Abstract

540,491. Hose couplings. MELSOM, W. A., and BOWDEN (ENGINEERS), Ltd. April 11, 1940, No. 6578. [Class 99 (i)] A hose is gripped between a sleeve 6 and a separately formed insert 2, by the action of radially-closing dies, the metal of the sleeve being also forced by radial pressure into or around grooves, recesses or projections 8 on the insert. The insert may have an annular groove or rib to provide axial interlock only, or a circumferential interlock may also be provided by interrupting the groove or rib, or by making it helical. The insert may have a coupling nut 1 secured to it as described in Specifications 540,489 or 540,490.
