Abstract

540,440. Knitting. ALLEN, J. M. Feb. 17, 1941, No. 2125.. Convention date, March 2, 1940. [Class 74 (ii)] Relates to the mechanical production of knitted articles such as socks, with patterned triangular and parallelogrammic figures bounded by coloured borders. The patterning is begun on alternate triangles 1 by narrowing down to one or two needles at the apices and then working the remaining triangles similarly. Two to four complete courses 2<SP>1</SP>, 4, 10 and 11 of a different colour are next worked. As the courses 4 and 11 reach the basal points 5, 8 of the areas 1, 2 one or two needles are lifted out of action and similarly at the apices 7, 9. The diamonds are next knitted, in a similar fashion to the triangles first by widening and then by narrowing, needles being put out of action at the corners. As many rows as required of diamonds are then added. This method may be used to knit parallelogrammic figures shown in Specification 534,007 with coloured borders.
