[Class 40 (iv)] In a system in which the frequency bands allotted to a number of telephone channels for transmission in the two directions form two groups in the spectrum with a gap between them, the gap is made wide enough to accommodate a broadcast channel comprising two frequency bands each of which transmits in the same direction as the adjacent group of telephone bands. The two bands may be transmitted on the same or different carriers, and may overlap to a limited extent. The broadcast channel may be carried by the same line as the telephone channels or by a parallel line, but in either case it is separated therefrom at repeater stations. The repeaters for the broadcast channel may comprise a single amplifier with directional switching or separate amplifiers for the two directions with a band-suppressor circuit switched from one path to the other to prevent singing.
