458,225. Multiplex systems. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. May 11, 1936, No. 13284. Convention date, May 10, 1935. Drawings to Specification. [Class 40 (iv)] In a multiplex system, all the channels (n) in one direction are provided by a single twowire circuit bearing a corresponding number of carrier frequencies all above a certain limit, whilst the channels in the other direction are provided by a plurality (m) of two-wire circuits in which the carriers are below this limit. Preferably, n/m is integral, with each of the plurality of circuits providing n/m channels of which all but one are carrier channels of different frequencies. The circuits may be such that the attenuations of the highest frequencies for both directions are substantially the same so that the repeater stations may correspond. The single circuit for the one direction may be a twin wire or a concentric conductor arranged at the centre of the cable with the circuits for the other direction surrounding it. The single circuit may also transmit further independent signals, e.g. for television, and the cable may also contain other circuits. Specification 436,870 is referred to.
