539,886. Feeding sheets. TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L. M. ERICSSON. Oct. 9, 1940, No. 15064. Convention date, July 6, 1939. [Class 100 (i)] A travelling follower 24 for pressing a bundle of letters into contact with rollers 25, 26 which feed the letters .singly to a stamping-machine is provided with a feeler-lever 10 controlling. a driving mechanism for causing the follower to advance and then return. In the apparatus shown, a trolley or follower 24 is supported by a base 31 and is provided with a roller 22 which engages a rod 23. The trolley supports the lever 10, a belt-crank 12, a pawl 13, and a ratchetwheel 14 connected by gears 15, 16 to a sprocketwheel 17. A chain 18 engaging the sprocketwheel passes over sprocket-wheels 19, 20 on the base and is driven through a friction-clutch by a motor. When a bundle of letters is placed in front of the trolley the lever 10 is rocked, the belt-crank 12 permits the pawl 13 to engage the ratchet-wheel, the sprocket-wheel 17 is locked, the trolley is advanced by means of the chain, and the letters are fed successively into the stamping-machine by means of rollers 27, 28. When the last letter has been fed, a spring 34 restores the bell-crank 12 and lever 10 and releases the pawl, and the trolley is returned by means of a spring 29. The upper part of the trolley can be detached from the lower part.
