[Class 1 (i)] A number of tubular catalyst chambers 12 as claimed in the parent Specification are arranged in a jacket 10 in which a temperature-regulating fluid circulates and an expansion vessel 38 is connected to the jacket so that the jacket is always full of liquid and the expansion vessel is never full irrespective of the temperature of the liquid. The expansion vessel may be provided with tubes through which air is blown and the temperature may be thermo-statically controlled. In a modification each catalyst chamber has its separate jacket. Several expansion chambers may be used and may be interconnected. Specification 398,492, [Group XIII], is referred to.
