[Class 1 (i)] Apparatus for exothermic reactions comprises a plurality of catalyst containing tubes 1 immersed in a bath 8 of liquid which boils under the reaction conditions, surrounded by an annular space which communicates with the vapour space 9 above the liquid and has an exit 15 for withdrawing condensed liquid. A number of such units may be connected in parallel.
