A tubular partition wall in a furnace combustion chamber has at one or more regions 6, 7 alternate tubes or groups of tubes arched in opposite directions to form tube cages. The cages may be vertically located one above the other, or else be in a staggered disposition (Fig. 3, not shown). One or more burners 9, 10 are so arranged within the cages as for their overall flame contour to be equidistant from the parts of the tubes defining the cages. Additional burners may be provided beneath the cages.
