Abstract
1360239 Tubular heat exchangers UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 5 May 1972 [26 May 1971] 17294/71 Heading F4S A heat-insulating structure for a tube plate 1 from which a plurality of spaced-apart tubes 2 extends through a shell (not shown) encircling the tubes, comprises a series of plates 4 extending parallel to one another, and edge on and adjacent to the tube plate, the plates being freely supported at their ends by a ring member 5 secured to the tube plate. The plates extend transversely through the tube assembly between adjacent tubes; and may be undulated (as shown) or plane (Fig. 3). The arrangement is intended to create pockets of stagnant liquid (e.g. water or steam) adjacent the tube plate to minimize thermal stress induced therein when operating conditions suddenly change.
