[Class 52 (v)] [Also in Group X ] A shelter, more particularly for use for housing aircraft, comprises an open ended structure formed of arched ribs springing directly from the ground, and collapsable hoods at each end, which, when closed, are of curved shape, whereby shadows are eliminated. The shelter is constructed as described in Specification 537,782. and each end rib is provided with a channelsection guide 8 to accommodate roller runners 26. Each roller is attached to a spring 14 the lower end of which is attached by a slip pin 19 to a chain 13, to stops 18 on a rail. 15 which is secured to the ground across the front of each entrance. The guides 8 are covered by metal soffit pieces 9 which protects the guide rail and tend to minimize shadows where the hood 7 joins the rib. All the slip pins are connected to a lanyard 21 so that they can be released simultaneously. Each hood is formed in two halves opening from the centre where. the adjacent edges may be laced. To maintain the curved formation of the hood when closed pivoted frameworks 30 are provided, one on each side, each with its upper inclined edge held against a chafing strip 32 on the hood by lines 33, and to. assist the raising of the frame as the curtain 'is closed a spring tie 34 attached to the centre of the end rib and to the frame may be provided or alternately a tee may be attached. to the frame and one of the inner rollers.
