Abstract
453,477. Flue - dampers. WATKINS, E. S., and HARRIS, S. C., 13, Walbrook, London. April 23, 1936, No. 11651. [Class 135] [See also Group XII] A flue-damper consists of a flexible roller blind 1, Fig. 1, weighted at the end 7 and moving over a framework 6 of vertical bars against which the blind bears by means of cross-bars 4. The bars 4 on the blind are of less width than the opening so that the suction draws the vertical edges of the blind against the side pieces of the framework 6. In a modification, Fig. 3, the flexible blind is fixed at one end 10 to the framework, on the chimney side, and a freely rotating weighted roller 18, on manual or mechanical operation of the spindle 9, acts in a fold in the blind to draw it down inside a double lattice framework 12 to form a double-walled closure. In Fig. 6 (not shown) the damper is horizontal, the roller 18 being attached at its ends to weights by ropes passing over pulleys. The blind is constructed of asbestos, thin steel, &c.
