Abstract
537,931. Loud-speakers. SHORTER, D. E. L. Feb. 21, 1940, No. 3308. [Class 40 (iv)] In an electrostatic loud-speaker, the fixed electrode or the diaphragm or both is or are divided into electrically separated sections fed through a frequency-selective filter in such a way that the whole of the signal frequency spectrum is fed to one section and only a lowfrequency band to another section. The Figure shows a fixed electrode in four sections, F1, F2, F3, F4, the diaphragm not being shown. The output of valve V is fed to the various sections through resistances R1, R2, R3 which cooperate with the inter-electrode capacities to form a frequency-selective low-pass filter so that the outer sections receive less and less of the higher frequencies. The polarizing battery B is connected through resistances R4 ... R7 in such a way that the outer sections receive a higher voltage than the inner ones. The condensers C1, C2, C3 serve merely as blocking condensers. The amplitude of the voice currents may be graduated in such a way that the outer sections receive the higher voltages. For push-pull working; a multi-section fixed electrode may be arranged on each side of the diaphragm.
