Abstract

539,444. Impedance networks. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and JACOBSEN, B. B. March 8, 1940, No. 4361. [Class 40 (iii)] A band-elimination filter comprises two or more sections of the form shown in Fig. 2,.or its equivalent shown in Fig. 8, the resistance r being inherent in the inductance L and the resistance y being chosen to give infinite attenuation at a certain frequency. Since the value of the inductance L depends to some extent on the current therethrough, the first section is dimensioned to give maximum attenuation at the desired frequency for the maximum input current it is likely to receive, while the second and any succeeding sections are correspondingly adjusted for the lower input thereto. In addition the discrimination effect is improved by a series resistance Rs, Fig. 2, or a shunt resistance RSH, Fig. 8, at the junction of two sections in order to bring about a reflection loss at that point. To prevent the impedance of the filter of Fig. 2 becoming too high at low frequencies, a shunt resistance may be connected to the mid-point of Rs, or a pair of shunt resistances may be bridged across the terminals. Fig. 9 shows a modification employing one section of each of the types used in Figs. 2, 8, with both series and shunt resistances Rs, RSH, such that their product is equal to the square of the terminating resistance.
