Abstract
534,176. Impedance networks. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Jan. 9, 1940, No. 468. Convention date, Feb. 10, 1939. [Class 40 (iii) ] Longitudinal currents of a particular frequency, and also in some cases of the second harmonic of that frequency, in a high-frequency transmission line are eliminated by bridging the line at spaced points by short-circuited (2n-1) #/4 lengths of line connected together at their short-circuited ends (where is the working wave length), the spacing being such that the arrangement acts as a sum and/or difference filter at the frequencies to be eliminated, i.e. that O2-O1=180 degrees or 01+02=360 degrees where O1 is the length of the transmission line between the po:ints of connection of the short-circuited lengths and 02 is the sum of the lengths of the short-circuited lengths and the conductor (if any) by which they are connected together. Specification 491,359 is referred to. The arrangement may take any of the forms shown in the figures.
