[Class 40 (iii)] A constant-resistance network is formed by connecting in parallel, Fig. 5, or in series, Fig. 7 (not shown), two circuits comprising equal resistances R1, R2 in series with inverse filters Z KS , 7 KSH of ladder type which are respectivel) mid-series terminated and mid-shunt terminated. One of the two filters serves as a balancing network, and sufficiently good results are obtained by using a single section or a halfsection for this filter, and preferably also for the inverse filter. In practical examples, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown), in which the circuits are in series, the filters are respectively of series-derived and shunt-derived m-type, and in a particular arrangement, Fig. 10, which is advantageous for good matching the balancing filter comprises a midseries terminated half-section of shunt-derived type having m = 0.6, while the inverse filter is series-derived and is terminated in mid-shunt at the output terminals E, F.
