Abstract
536,668. Condensers. SILBERMANN, S., and MICANITE & INSULATORS CO., Ltd. Feb. 7, 1940, No. 2377. [Class 37] Power condensers, having flat layers or flattened rolls of alternating metal and paper, are held together by flat bands of steel &c. electrically insulated from the layers in order to obtain a high ratio of the volume of the electrostatically active part to the entire volume. In the example Fig. 1, three units a<1>, a<11>, a<111> are secured by steel bands b, and are made of layers of paper separated by foil, having lugs l projecting from each end alternately. Insulating layers separate the units with recesses to accommodate connecting busbars e. The condenser may be immersed in a container with oil or other impregnant or with gas, with or without excess pressure. Various arrangements of folded paper may be used to separate the foils in a unit, the edges being bent up to reduce the volume. Fuses d may be inserted in the connections.
