Abstract

536,595. Control of D.C. motors. BRITISH. THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. June 14, 1940, No . 10346. Convention date, June 16, 1939. [Class 38 (iii)] A traction motor 1 is accelerated by using very few resistance stops 2 and a buck-boost generator set 3 which is arranged to keep the armature current substantially constant. The set 3 may be a generator with a known arrangement of three field windings or it may be a metadyne. After acceleration the set may be used for field shunting and during braking a shunt may be placed across the motor's series field and the armature of the set 3 so as to give regeneration.
