Systems for continous current motors only.- In controlling a motor 22 for hoisting, excavat- ,ing, or other heavy work, by regulating a genera- -tor 20 which supplies the motor with current, each machine has a series field and a shunt or separately excited field, the two fields of the motor assisting each other and those of the generator opposing each other. During acceleration, resistance 28 is gradually cut out of the generator shunt field, and, after a certain number of steps, gradually inserted into the motor shunt field. The controller may have additional segments or resistances for effecting steps uf regenerative braking.
