536,014. Diaphragm valves. BURGESS, A. F. (McAlear Mfg. Co.). Aug. 21, 1939, No. 24040. [Class 135] A valve controlling the flow of fluid from an inlet 8 to an outlet 9 comprises a pair of diaphragms 14, 15 secured between the central part 1 and end parts 2,. 3 of the casing, the diaphragms being moved up and down, an operation which is facilitated by the fact that the pressure of the fluid on the two diaphragms is balanced. In the position shown the fluid passes through the central part as indicated by the arrows, but when the diaphragms are lowered, the upper one 14 engages a seating on across member 10 so as to cut off the flow. A partition 25 prevents fluid from passing to the outlet 9 under the cross member 10. The diaphragms may be actuated by a hand wheel 12 and screw 13, or by fluid pressure admitted at 30. A connection 26, 28 is provided between the upper and lower chambers. The walls of the central chamber may be coated with porcelain, enamel, glass, rubber &c. to protect from corrosion.
