535,772. Power operated shavers. AFFOLTER, A. Aug. 21, 1939, Nos. 24079 and 24080. Convention dates, Aug. 26, 1938, and May 28, 1938. [Class 131] A mechanical razor comprises an electric motor. 5 in the handle, a stationary toothed guard 13 fixed to a spindle. 10 passing through the hollow. shaft of the motor and a toothed movable cutter 17 pressed against the guard by a spring. The spindle 10 is secured at its lower end by a screw 12 by which it may be adjusted. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 3 the cutter has a smaller number of teeth than the guard and is rotated by the motor a helical spring 16 pressing it into engagement with the guard plate. In another form the cutter 17 is loosely mounted on the spindle 10 and is given an oscillatory movement. The guard may have an annular cutting surface recessed in relation to the lower border and formed with a series of teeth in a rim to form a protection for the cutter 17.
