[Class 110 (iii)] Blades and other parts of gas turbines are covered.with.a layer of a heat insulating material and that layer is covered by a protecting layer.of a heat stable material. Fig. 6 shows the cross-section of a blade, 15 is the body of the blade of ordinary material 16 is a heat insulation layer and 17 is a protective covering. The sides of the rotor may be similarly covered. The blades may have integral cover portions and these may be used to support the covering layers under centrifugal force. The protective covering may be omitted at the outer surfaces of the cover portions or these surfaces may be left entirely uncovered and be cooled by air currents. The heat insulating material and the protective covering may be applied by spraying and the heat insulating, material may be applied by a pressing process.
