613,734. Making turbine blades. AKT.- GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. June 28, 1946, No. 19435. Convention date, Aug. 13, 1945. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XXVI] Brazing.-The blade is provided with a mushroom-shaped root which is fixed to the blade carrier by brazing in a protective gas atmosphere. The latter may be provided by subjecting the blade root b to a stream of protective gas, or by enclosing it in a casing d, Fig. 4, which forms a gas chamber and has sealing means g of asbestos or other heatresistant non-conductor of electricity. The casing may be large enough to enclose more than one blade at a time. The blade root may be made slightly concave with respect to the blade carrier, so that the edge of the root makes contact first and initiates the brazing current. A hollow electrode may be placed over the shaft a of the blade to rest directly on the root. The blades may be hollow. The blades may be brazed to a carrier i, Fig. 7, which is welded to the rotor or stator c.
