Abstract

535,184. Thermionic valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. and GOODCHILD, F. D. Sept. 29, 1939, No. 26873. [Class 39 (i)] The electrode system of a thermionic valve is carried on a support attached to one end of the envelope and carrying at the other end a guide resting on the envelope, the support being so arranged and constructed that its thermal expansion in operation is considerably less than that of the electrode system. The figure shows an arrangement of supporting rods 3 attached at one end to a collar 6 mounted on the stem 5 of the envelope and carrying at the other a mica disc 8 resting on the envelope. The supports are connected by lavite bridge 4 on which the electrodes are mounted. The supports are arranged at such a distance from the electrodes that they keep relatively cool, and may be made of metal with a low coefficient of expansion, preferably that known under the Registered Trade Mark " Invar," though nickel may suffice.
