Abstract
496,643. Discharge apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Aug. 11, 1938, No. 23704. Convention date, Sept. 15, 1937. [Class 39 (i)] In gas-filled electric discharge devices of the type comprising more than two main electrodes in series along the discharge path, and particularly for use as potential dividers, the space between the electrodes 9 and the envelope 1 is filled with glass or quartz wool 12 to prevent passage of the discharge otherwise than between successive electrodes. In the arrangement shown, the electrodes are in the form of discs mounted on a glass stem 7 with. glass spacers 8. Leads are carried to the electrodes through either end of the envelope and have insulating sleeves, such as 51, 6<1>. In a modification, all the discs except the lowest, have their central parts dished, and the upper disc is centred in the envelope by springs.
