Convention date, Feb. 8, [Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group V] An accelerator for rubber comprises a di- (arylenethiazyl) disulphide, e.g. di(benzothiazyl) disulphide prepared by oxidizing a 2-mercaptoarylene-thiazole with nitrous acid and coating the aggregates with an oily material e.g. with mineral oil cottonseed oil, pine oil, cocoanut oil, oleic acid, ammonium oleate, stearic acid, lauric acid, castor oil, paraffin oil or mixture or salts or soaps thereof. In an example, 2-mercapto-benzothiazole of 90 per cent. purity prepared as in Specification 283,679, [Class 2 (iii)], was treated with caustic soda sodium nitrite and sulphuric acid and coated with a rubber process mineral oil of flashpoint above 165‹C.
